Grade 4:
After finishing our project on hatching and cross-hatching, we're going to make some objects to shade in. Next week we will begin to look at the 3-d form, and how to create simple 3-d shapes. Students will then shade in those forms by determining the light source and shading in the parts of the 3-d object that aren't being lit.
Grade 5: This week we are finishing our Van Gogh oil pastel portraits. The students have been doing a terrific job, and any students who finish early will be encouraged to use oil pastel to original faces in the same color and pose as the portrait they copied. It is an opportunity to use what they learned from the master copy to make their own original work.
Grade 6: The 6th graders will be continuing work on the 3 spheres MC Escher Master Copy. The students have already made significant progress in their understanding of how to shade, and since shading is a huge part of this exercise, but shading something well takes time, and if it is done carefully, it is well worth it.
