6th grade:
This week we are finishing our cross contour landscapes! It was a long project, but I've been very pleased with the results. Students have learned about different color schemes, and how to use line to make 3-d imagery and have used them to make interesting 3-d compositions.
5th grade:
This week we are continuing to prepare ourselves for coloring the Narnian city. This week we are looking at the concept of the underpainting, and to get a better understanding of it, we'll be looking at works by Vermeer to get a better grasp of how a good underpainting can unify all the other colors in a work of art.
4th grade:
This week we are preparing to color our medieval creatures by studying color, and how to use it well in a composition. More often than not, a bad color job can ruin hours of detailed drawing, which is why before we apply color, we do a smaller version of it in what is called a "color comp".
