Latin - Ms. Manske - 4-6th grade


FOURTH GRADE LATIN NEWS —
We are having a QUIZ over our Greek and Latin root cards this week! 4A and 4C are taking the quiz on Wednesday while 4B and 4D will take it on Thursday. Your student should spend five minutes each night studying his or her cards! Students will be expected to know the meanings of Greek and Latin roots (eg ‘phobos’ means fear) and they should be able to name a couple derivatives (eg hydrophobia is a derivative of ‘phobos’) for each root.
FIFTH GRADE LATIN NEWS —
We are having a translation QUIZ over pages 16-19 this week! 5B and 5D are taking the quiz on Monday, 5A and 5C are taking it on Tuesday.
SIXTH GRADE LATIN NEWS —
We are having a translation QUIZ over pages 16-20 this week! 6B and 6D are taking the quiz on Monday, 6A and 6C are taking it on Tuesday.

Music - Mr. Austin - 5th - 6th grade

5th Grade:
In 5th grade we will be reviewing and reinforcing our understanding of compound meter and reading rhythms in 9/8 and 12/8. Additionally we will devote extra time this week to our concert preparations.

6th Grade:
In 6th grade we will continue to examine compound meter and recognize and sound compound rhythms in context. Our discussion of opera this week will focus on Georg Philipp Telemann’s Pimpinoneand examine its connection to Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona. Additionally we will continue working diligently on our concert repertoire. 

Music - Ms. Caranto - K-2

This week in Music with Miss Caranto -
·      Kinder will be:
o   Learning “high” and “low” voices and applying these to known songs
o   Reviewing the important term “beat/heartbeat” and being able to identify how many beats in a phrase of a known song
o   Practicing learned concert songs and learning the 3rd song
·      1st Grade will be:
o   Practicing reading rhythm syllables of known and unknown songs
o   Practicing and identifying when a crescendo occurs in music
o   Practicing known concert songs and learning the 3rd song
·      2nd Grade will be:
o   Experiencing and learning about duple meter
o   Learning and reviewing new folk songs
o   Practicing known concert songs and learning the 3rd song
