BIENVENIDOS A LA CLASE DE ESPAÑOL!
Con las maestras Majors y la maestra Franzese,
Vamos a tener un año muy divertido y aprenderemos mucho en este año escolar del 2017-2018. Welcome to Spanish Classe with Sra. Majors and Sra. Franzese, we are going to learn a lot in our Spanish class  and have an exciting school year!

Students will be engaged with vocabulary, culture, grammar reading, writing and listening skills. Sonrisas blends the underlying principles of the five C’s (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, Communities) As a result, right from the start; students are given the tools to express themselves articulately, interact meaningfully with others, and become highly competent communicators in Spanish.

At the beginning of the first few weeks we will be learning about classroom procedures, behavior expectations, and greetings.

Great Hearts Northern Oaks Spanish Course Overview
Grades K-3 for 2017-2018 School Year

I.                    Course Description
The course is designed to build an oral proficiency in Spanish.  The students will not only learn the language but respect the culture that coincides with it.  Students will begin learning the Spanish language in Kindergarten and continue until 3rd grade after which they will transition into Latin.  Students will learn basic conversational skills, along with listening and certain writing skills in Spanish.  As the students move on from each grade level they will build upon the skills learned in previous grades and continue to be exposed to more of the culture and vocabulary of the Spanish language.
II.                 Text and Supplies
K-2 will use the Sonrisas Program
3rd grade will use the Converso Mucho Program
III.              Homework
K-2 will not have homework
3rd grade will have homework when they receive a study guide to study for an upcoming assessment.
IV.              Assessments
Students should expect to be assessed either orally or through a written assignment on the content from each unit.  3rd grade students will be notified a week in advance of such assessment and will be given a study guide of what will be covered on the particular assessment.
V.                Participation
Participation is imperative in each class.  Notation will be made if students are not actively participating in each lesson.  One of the best ways to learn is by practicing the language and to practice it often.  Merely listening to others speak is not enough.  We expect each child to be fully engaged.

  1. Have Spanish classes commenced? I haven't heard my son say anything about Spanish and when his older brother came home practicing Latin, my 2nd grader said they hadn't started Spanish yet.
