“See, Think, Wonder”:

Each class will
start by looking at a different example of artwork.
·
K-3 will draw a quick sketch of the image
of artwork. In addition, second and third graders will take brief notes,
labeling their drawing. (What they SEE)

After silently looking at the artwork,
thinking about what it represents, and forming some questions about the work,
we will discuss as a class.

Kinder and
First Grade:
Discussed “what art is made of” – The Elements of Art:
Line, Shape, Form, Value, Color, Texture, Space
Students looked for SHAPES as opposed to FORMS in Joan
Miro’s painting, “The Farm.”

This we learned the difference between organic and
geometric shapes.

We also started a paper cut out collage based off of “The
Snail”, by Matisse, as well as drawing an image of a more realistic snail in
our sketchbooks. Discussed the spiral
“movement” of the shapes, as they “marched around the page” and the texture on
an actual snail.

This upcoming week we will learn how to trace around
templates and cut out additional shapes
to add to our artwork.
We looked at the following artworks by Henri Matisse:
Second and Third Grade:

photograph of the same home. Students
drew in sketchbook from the photograph of Miro’s home; Practiced making different
types on lines on worksheet.
