Art - Mrs. Northway - K-3rd Grade

Quarter 2, Week 4, 2017                                                                                                            Northway Art K-3

Kindergarten:  Element of Art – Value
Continuing our study of value, I read the books “Polar Bear Morning and Polar Bear Night” to students.  We did our best to draw an extremely cute baby polar bear in our sketchbooks.  There will be a continuation of this drawing project next week with black construction paper and white chalk.
First Grade:  Element of Art – Texture
We are finished cutting and gluing the chameleons to the textured, painted green paper.  Students are finalizing some details and coloring of the chameleons this week.  I hope to have these displayed in the hallways soon because they turned out beautifully.

Second Grade:  Element of Art – Shape; Value
After practicing creating values with different media last week, students did their best to copy a drawing of a horse by Edgar Degas using a soft leaded ebony pencil. We only worked on these drawings for one class period. We drew the horse by starting with the simple shapes.  We also drew straight lines lightly on the paper to help with keeping the drawing in proportion.  Some students began on the interior values. Below, is the Degas drawing and an example of a student drawing.

Third Grade: Element of Art – Texture
Third graders continue to work on  their portion of a collaborative copy of Van Gogh’s Starry Night, in acrylic paint on canvas.
